Well guys i have a Soundstream 500 running at 500watts at or below 1 ohm.
It is pushing 3 JL W6 10" Looking for more bass ( yea it is nuts right now haha) But if i were to go with W7 what would be best? Two 10" W7 three 10" W7, or two 12" W7 three 12" W7 i do not want to upgrade my amp. I am thinking two 12" W7 but i dont want less bass than what i have now with the three 10" W6.

Thank you Skydog:thumbsup:

I honestly don't think you have enough power for 10W7's. You want plenty of power to prevent "clipping" which is basically distortion from lack of power. I used to run one 10W6 with a 500/1 JL and it was awsome. What is max output from that soundstream?

If you don't want to increase power and you do want to go to a 7 then I would suggest one single 10W7. The 7's are a complete different ball game compared to the 6. I prefer the 10" speakers over any b/c I feel they are cleaner and more accurate.

If you want to run 2 or more 7's I would suggest upping the power to at least 1500 peak watts if not more. Take a look at this chart. It show's RMS wattage per one driver. http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_subs_pages.php?page_id=35

Just my thoughts,

i'll agree ya dont have enough for the 12---the 10s give ya tight bass sound
where the 12
" give ya a more boomier sound my opion is 2 12" if your sub can drive em. if not when ya start dive them hard the amp will overheat and kickout. iv got 1 12 fosgate p2/ orion 600 amp and it kicks.

Ok, the JL 1000/1 is about 1000w RMS. The 12W7 likes about 500-600RMS per driver so it should work out ok. I'd suggest more power yet, around 1200w RMS if you can get someting like that. I'm no W7 expert so I don't want to stear you wrong. You are better off with too much power than not enough. Too little causes clipping in the amp and that is what kills drivers. Clipping is basically when the amp can't keep up with demand of the driver.

If you really want to get a very good idea of what you need call JL. I have talked to their Tech line before and they are very helpful.

Hope this helps,
DIK

If you haven't checked them out yet, I would look into Elemental audio. They aren't really known but their reviews are outta this world when reviewed by some of the major car audio mags. for the price, you get way more clean (and LOUD) bass compared to many of the main stream companies. I have one of their original 12's thats about 6 years old now getting punished with a 800watt amp. Also many of their designs work best in small enclosures making them great for marine applications.

I would recommend just taking 10 min to give them a call and tell them what u are looking for. Super intelligent guys. Once I make my first boat purchase its getting decked out with all their gear!

This one is rated on par with the w7. Comes in a combo with a 1200 watt @1 ohm amp for $450. Can't go wrong!!
