The owner's manual for the Mercury 2.5 DRAG says to use "a major brand of automotive unleaded fuel" of 112 octane (R+M)/2 method.

Who in the world is making unleaded, 112 octane fuel?

Sunoco, VP racing fuels, etc, it's out there, try your local petroleum distributor in the yellow pages, cost a lot to get it shipped, best to find it local.

You can run 100low lead aviation gas with stock drag motors that have 26cc heads (around 180psi cranking). Some folks dont like it,but i ran it for years without probs and it will be half the price of Sunoco,VP or other race gases. You run yours at Berryessa?

100LL has octain around 110 when figured the way automotive fuel is figured just be sure the oil is good and use a touch extra... 100LL is DRIER versus standard motor fuel.. there is also purple AV gas that is like 115 LL and is even higher yet in octain...

Stoker (Dave?) yes I run at Berryessa and what brand is the aviation fule you refer to?

I recall some ancient post about why aviation fuel was bad for the motors used in our sport but now can't remember why. Thanks 150, what brand is the 100LL and 115L? Does it have detergents (injector cleaners etc.)?

100LL is available at ANY air port that has gasoline powered propeller driven aircraft.. (think the smaller ones like cesna or piper...) and 100LL is available for ANY NON HIGHWAY USAGE Motor cycles, Chainsaws Boats track events ect.... not just aircraft... some larger airports dont let the public on the runway to fuel due to security but the small ones are just trying to make a living will let you in.... I keep a 16 gallon barrel of 100LL for when I want to go wheeling in my 1968 pickup that had a 11.:1 compression.. now that its only 9.8 i mix it 50/50 with 92 just as a safety factor on hard pulls..

The last time that I bought AvGas was several years ago @ about $1.90/gal... I'm sure that the price has changed drastically, what are You Guy's seeing it sell for recently and also what are Ya'll paying for 108+ octane gasoline... I have an engine that will require these fuels in the near future, just wondering how many Kleenex that I'll need to bring...:(

I made a phone about fuel pricing yesterday, 100 octane Gasoline (not AvGas) is $3.85 per/gal... Does this sound reasonable..? What kind of compression and or head cc will this safely operate a drag style Merc on a River Racer type set-up... I know specifics are impossible, just looking for a rough guesstimate...

not a bad price really... 100 octain should be good for about 170ish compression... lets think of it this way.. 3.85 a gallon... when 87 for some of us is 3.13 a gal.....
