Can anyone tell me if a 1996 2.0l XR2 Offshore hp motor (196hp) is the same powehead (and porting spec) as the SST120?? - K

It is a right hand motor but is suppose to be the same basic powerhead. if it is a 96 it would not have the newer pistons and would probably not be as good as the current versions. I would contact Brendon Power or Chris Fairchild. They could probably tell you if that motor would be competitive.

No, The SST 120 motor is not a bridgeport. I also has a the smaller 5 peddle front half. It is cross drilled. The Carbs are WH46 or the newer model carbs. Most of the guys like the WH46's the best. The heads are 26cc.

No, The SST 120 motor is not a bridgeport.

The SST140 motors are the Bridgeports, among others...

The last version of the 2.0 Liter F1 motors were Bridgeport engines with finger ports and nickasil bores. This may be what you are running on your drag boat. If so they were strong motors and would turn some very high RPM. The stock head on the 2.0 liter F1 motors were 21 cc. Many people ran smaller heads.
The SST 140 motors which ran in the late 1980's til the early 90's (pre SST120) were Bridgeport 2.4's with 5 peddle front halfs cross drilled and WH 46 carbs. The early SST 140's were oval port motors like a 200 2.4 fishing motor.
The legal 120 motors are steel bore blocks. The proting looks very similar to the 2.0 liter fishing motors. The ports are a little higher and the exhaust opening is also a little larger coming out of the ports into the back of the motor. There are all sorts of specs that this motor needs to meet for porting , exhaust openings, k dimension, head CC's, intake, size of the cross drill in the intake etc. Chris Fairchild, and Brendon Power who sometimes post on this board are two of the best SST 120 builders around and can give you a lot more info on the 120 and what it takes to make one a winner.

good of you to sort this out. as both of my blocks came from retired 120 racers. the exst were cleaned up. but ports were only 080 ubove xr 2 . but one block was finger ported aswell. turned into a turkey. no low end. both steel bores. we put efi front case on both now finger ported motor has some real go. running 21 cc heads o ringed and squish cut. i'm sure it would have to be quote stock to run 120 class. greg jacobson in seatle has 10 or so 120s for sale. at sea way marine. thanks for the clarifcation greg.

your correct
none of the old style xr2 or F1 blocks (2.4 castings) are legal for sst120
but the new versions are legal blocks(2.5 castings)
sst120 was created after merc had the new castings in production
and the rules and specs are written for these blocks and components only

sst120 block#884-9765a11 and xr2 #884-8765t10
these are the same casted blocks with the same ports,,,different part# cause xr2 came with longer studs for production mids
xr2 complete drop on differences was clock starter and timing arm

the F1 2.0s are a great motor,,,with the small bore and all the porting they sceam rpm smoothly with the smaller bore ,,,,i have 1 im playing with and love it......

by the way im on the hunt for a BP 2.0 F1 tuner if you have an extra with the F1 motors,,,,need it to race with in another class than 120

have one 2.0 sst tuner, was same as 2.0 f motors. seabold said to use
120 tuner. with carb motor. short 2.4 tuner for efi . my drag motor is better with the 120 tuner. have #6 drives. so smooth power,is faster. greg.150 for tuner. greg.
