Parker...I remember that boat. It was rightly named "Six Pack". I can remember your dad, Randy, idling it out through Clearwater pass, under the Sand Key bridge, into the Gulf and "hammering down" all six throttles. It was a sound that I will never forget. As Always...Thanks for the memories...

There were several offshore boats rigged like this. From John Crouse's picture of Six-Pac I'd say this is one of the others .... note the differences in rigging and different motors:

Man that pic is from a great period in powerboating when you could do some different stuff without getting your chops busted by some kayak paddlers !!

Parker...You really need to post some pictures of your Dad's Turbine powered offshore boat, "Spirit of 76". I spent a lot of time in your Dad's shop back during the time that the "76" boat was being rigged. It was quite a lot of first class engineering. Your Dad had an engineer from Honeywell Aerospace that did the rigging and set up on that boat. Unfortunately, I cannot remember his name. A real nice guy, though.

Here is a picture of my brand new SJ Van Wagoner boat going into the water on Lake Seminole for the first time back on January 17, 1974. The hand you see holding the boat is Bert Serra's. Burt was the one that saved my life that day when I blew it over. I will never forget him...Thank You, Bert Serra...

imagine this back then the boats in the pics have around 810-850 h.p.

a similar boat of todays standards puts that out with 2 or 3 outboards

imagine a off shore boat with 6 300 p.m. or 280 putting out around 1680-1800 h.p. that be an amazing site to see

Parker...Here are a few pictures of the Magic Twanger ll. It was the summer of 1976 at the Olson Classic in St. Pete Beach. The water was extremely rough in the inter coastal waterway that day, especially with all the inboards running. I had a new 20 gallon aluminum tank made for Magic and the pounding broke two of the seams. I still finished second in Unlimited Outboard with about 5 gallons of fuel sloshing around inside the boat. Good thing I don't smoke...

This was the same race that Kenny Olson stuffed his T-3 powered Molinari through a cabin cruiser that had run on to the course. The tunnel went completely through one side of the cruiser and the pickle forks were coming out of the other side. When the cruiser came into the marina, it was quite a sight to see. As usual, Kenny walked away without a scratch.

Bob V, that last post brought back memories for me. I was running my little kneel down DS up at Sanford in the old 4x15 minute heat marathon format (musta been '76 or '77) when, in the fourth heat counts for nothing race, Ken slid out into my boat coming out of a turn. Took one side of the sponson off for about 2-3' in the rear of his (it had plywood side that extended above the deck, I guess to help with planing, but it gave my boat leverage). Then he gets to the pits ahead of me, and someone locked the keys in his car with the trailer down the ramp. As I am pulling in he is breaking out the rear window with a hammer!
