1970 vs 1971 decal difference

Whats the difference between a 1970 and 1971 1350 decal ? I know both a red stripers.. Looking to make sure i get the correct decals for a 1970 mota.

the only difference that i see is with the faceplate. 1970 still used the thick plastic emblem in the middle of the faceplate, in 1971 it looks similar but it is a decal instead of a thick plastic emblem. one of these days i will get a computer and digital camera so i can post pics. of all this stuff.

i have every year from 1964 thru 1988, except 1965,1968. plus a couple high perf. i cant scan them or post them in any way, yet. i have webtv, but getting a computer soon. got many year decals too. will also scan them too. we can get a data base going for this stuff.

The site owner Greg would really like to get his hands on those brochures for the purpose of making scans of them. I don't think even Mercury has all their own brochures archived! I'm wiling to bet that he would be willing to pay the shipping both ways to get them scanned and send them back to you unharmed...

This photo is what a 71 front cover decal looks like---red stripe outside the black stripe. Also note the center piece is a sticker. It still says Kiekhaefer, but it says "mercury" in large white letters.

Here is an earlier front cover---probably 1969 ---black stripe outside of red stripe. Note that the center piece is the older, plastic medallion with large "Kiekhaefer" K .

Also, as with everything Mercury, there was probably some overlap between years on decals...

I am 99% sure that 1970 - 1971 decals are identical. There were probably some older front covers used in 1970.

I am 100% certain each year is different in some way. I used to be able to tell the year by the stripes from the last silver without red well into the blue ... but now I have CRS and only remember that they are certainly different from year to year ... every year .... until the multi color stuff

The difference is 71 had acrome border around the 1350 Lloyd's marine

There was no over lap 1350 had a crome border around it Lloyd's marine
