Well it's coming up soon.
I'll be displaying two boats (I Hope). A 57 Trojan Runabout and the Carlson.
Suggest we get together and meet if anyone else is attending.

Sam, The "Stacker" is back on a stand, and the boat is now in your neighborhood. Gary is finishing what might be the most outrageous boat, motor, tow combo ever seen at the Mount Dora Show.:D

Well, I will be there as well. I hope to have my project boat at least rigged to be able to show it. Doubt if I will have time to run it before then. I will have alot of sorting out to do. But the end result should be real interesting. It is an original 16 Allison with a T2X!!!! All the S@F guys need to set up a meet at the show so we can introduce each other and hang out, bench race and swap stories. Should be a great time.:D :D :D

Gemini,
I'm still pretty tough, well I can get by without a kidney belt anyway!
NICE RIDE - tell us a little more about it, please.:D

This will likely be the best year EVER for Mt. Dora with the fiberglass outboards. It'll be worth the trip no matter where you come from.

The boat came from the Finger Lakes area of upstate NY when I bought it 5 years ago. It's a totally original 1972 model, except for carpet, gauges and hot foot. The motor was a 140HP but the powerhead only was replaced with a 150HP, years ago. I added the original early style louvered cowl. The trailer was junk so I had a new custom Magnum trailer made. The guy was running it as a second boat about 6 times a year with a speedmaster unit and 2 blade. OUCH ! I ran it with the 14:15 SSM and lab 3 blade cleaver but since it was a ski version I put the original shifting gear case back on. It came with a Mercury 2 blade 28 round ear but a 26 or 28 3 blade cleaver works best so far. It has the usual 2 tracking rails on the bottom but is still "interesting" in the turns. The rig runs 72 mph GPS with the old style 140 unit with a lot left. With a better setup and change to my XS gear case it should run 76-78 mph. It's surprisingly nice with no damage, original decals and MFG sticker inside.

fire up that million dollar motorhome and ease on down 75, you'll be in good company, they have little motorhome villages around town. i'll buy you one them homemade icecreams ;) you could drop by palatka and see the crew, then ease over for the show, which may be what we do. fun out

That's right-they can not take any more boats- in the water or land displays.
They will have about 250 boats -

Weather looks like it will be low 70's and Sunny!

Should be a great show!!

Carlson150XS
03-14-2006, 08:19 PM
Bruster-
The Carlson needs a few things done to it for the show-but it will be there.
The Merc has no Decals-but they are coming. Many other things need to be done to it -but will not be done in time.-She still looks good. It has not been in the water for about three years. I brought it down to Florida with me two years ago and it was in the garage until the new baby arrived- the 1957 Woodie Trojan.
The Trojan has been in the water one time since it was totally restored. The Trojan is now the garage Queen and has the garage space the Carlson had. Don't want to part with either them even if I don't use them.
The Trojan will also be in the show.

Really can't compare to the Carlson you have- it's a beauty.
Hope to meet you at the show.

Best Mt. Dora show I have seen. I ran into folks I had not seen in decades and never expected to again, and boats and motors that took me back to the day. I hope somebody got pictures of Tommy Sheldon's Reveau, it is beautiful. Boats like that one are why I got into the E Class and it was great to see one so well restored. There was equipment that covered pretty much my time in OPC as well as stuff from the Inboard,Stock Outboard and Alky divisions.

Was a great show but not a lot of OPC race stuff. I was there Sat. and some stuff had already left. Sat with Jim- Carlson150XS and had a great time visiting him and some other S&F guys. Saw a lot of my old inboard racing friends. There were someting like 40 Jersey Speed Skiffs there.
We really need a lot more OPC stuff.
Plenty of Stock, MOD boats and motors and a lot of over restored motors and many daily runners. The only thing I don't care for is putting a modern motor on a great old classic boat. Fine if you want to use it but a downer for a show. Hey just my opinion.
Sunday went to the race in Cresent City and ran into Kenny Kitson and his wing, stood and talked to him, Jim Hunt (ole gator) and Louis Collins (gemini) for at least 1/2 hour. Jim has a neat 20 Allison with a wing. Jim didn't invite me to drive it. Then again I didn't ask! Jim looks great by the way. Great to see a Wing in person again.
It drew a lot of attention, many of the drivers at the race and others didn't even know what it was! Thanks Kenny for bringing it out and showing it off.
All in all a good weekend.
Now back to work.

I suggest that We have our own area- Like the Jersey Speed Skiff guys-
a separate S&F area??

Great pics ! I love that De Silva with the 75 -H . Brian , I have to stop by the store to see you guys .

It is a racing motor, but not a 75H. Its an 80 with a Super Speedmaster and a Quincy mid section;) It belongs to Steve Cox

Great pics!!! Thanks for sharing. I looked at one of those James Bond boats (Scimitar) about ten years ago. Had a Lingenfelter small block. Even had a power driver's seat.

Thanks Brian. You got pictures of everything at the show that I would have if I had a camera with me. Sunday morning was about the only time you could have run that R/C boat.

It's a shame that nobody got a picture of Gary's Desoto with the hood up................. like the bumper sticker you see around now says.............."It's a hemi". The pictures don't do that combo justice. The upholstery in both the boat and car match. It was displayed at Daytona in the host Hotel at the Turkey Rod run back in November, and it was impossible to get a picture of it from the crowds around it. I never ran into Gary there, but had a real good idea it must be his based on some of his past projects.

Is that DeSilva a restored old boat or a more currently built one? With Reveau and Aristo Crafts being made again I'd think there's a definite market for those also.

One thing that I noticed about that Quincey mid that I've never paid attention to before is that it looks like the powerhead has to come off to remove the gearcase. That would'nt seem like good planning with the likelyhood of the need for a gearcase change between heats back then.

Mark 75 - H , thanks for the correction on that , I have always viewed the classic De Silva runabout as one of the most simplistically beautiful boats of all time . One of my aspirations in racing was to do the Top O' Michigan Regatta in a D - desilva Runabout , not going to happen but I love those boats !!

That water is beautiful. Running at 60 or 70 MPH on the river would be a rush, but the lakes could be killer if the wind kicks up. :D :D

So Jim, is it a restored boat or a new one? I'd sure like to find something neat to put that old 1000 on the Daytona tower on.

Put it on one of those new/old Raveau's....They are beautiful and contemporary with the engine.....and available.

On the other hand the De Silva's are S-o-o-o-o-o beautiful.

Why would the trailer tag say S. Carolina? we don't register or tag small trailers here? Don't even think there is a tag you can get! Bob Dunlop from Savannah had a number of boats and motors scattered around, could it have been one of his?
